Please read and review prior to attending an AFA event.

Conduct and Procedures for all Events

The Academy is intended to be a safe gathering place where adults can have the opportunity to express their authentic self with others. Our object is to offer a play and educational location that allows one to take advantage of opportunities that encourage personal growth, and promote healthy communication and interaction.

MANAGER ON DUTY (MOD) AUTHORITY
The Manager on Duty (MOD) will have the authority to remove an attendee from an event for unsafe play which may include, but is not exclusive of the following:

  • Not using common expected safety procedure and norms in BDSM or “sexual” play
  • Repeated or atrocious one-time consent violations
  • Playing while drunk/impaired
  • The Manager on Duty (MOD) has the right to call an attendee a cab or uber/lyft at the attendee’s expense if the attendee is deemed incompetent to drive home
  • The Manager on Duty (MOD) will have the final say in all activity within the facility. The MOD is permitted to stop any scene that they feel is unsafe, non-consensual. If you are planning to do a heavy scene, resistance play scene, or scene that appears non-consensual – Please discuss it with Manager on Duty (MOD) beforehand.

RULES OF CONDUCT
This Code applies to all members that attend any function (event or group) at The Academy.

  • No refunds will be given to anyone removed from The Academy for violation of any of AFA policies, rules, or regulations.
  • Members are expected to be cordial and treat each other with respect without regard to gender, race, color, creed, ancestry, place of origin, political beliefs, religion, marital status, disability, age, or sexual orientation. Although you may have different views and opinions, if you are unable to treat others with respect regardless of those views, you are not welcome at The Academy.
  • The Academy reserves the right to refuse admission to (or remove from the premises) – anyone for any reason.
  • Remember: It is the expectation of The Academy that Enthusiastic Consent be obtained for any activity – touching other people, touching stuff that isn’t yours, etc. We follow National Coalition for Sexual Freedom’s (NCSF) “Guide for Groups” guidelines for consent policies. Please refer to the AFA Safety and Consent Violation Procedures for more information.
  • The universal safewords are RED and SAFEWORD.
    If either word is used, the scene will be stopped immediately.
  • Rule violations will be handled according to the AFA Safety and Consent Violation Procedures.
  • Those attending any event or group at The Academy are required to respect and maintain the confidentiality of individual personal information including (but not limited to) names, attendance at events, or interpersonal interaction.
  • If copious bodily fluids will be present in a scene the use of “chucks” or tarps is required. The attendee is responsible for cleaning up any expressed body fluids.
  • Use of cell phones is prohibited.
    Cell phones may only be used in the lobby area or outside.
  • Cameras, including cell phones, must be declared and intent of using to capture a picture of the scene when registering.
    * Waivers must be signed by all individuals in the room prior to a scene starting.
    * Photography is only allowed in the side rooms (NOT on the main floor).
    * Cameras and other electronic recording devices are NOT allowed in the main play space.
    * When photos are being taken, the MOD, Staff, or AFA Board Member must be present at all times while a camera is in use.
  • No Exchange of Money for Any Professional Services of Any Kind.
    This rule includes professional dominants, professional submissive, chiropractors, masseurs, accountants, and brick-layers.
    Money transfers are only permissible for sale of goods subject to the Board’s permission.
    On occasion, The Academy may have a photographer, an approved masseuse, bootblack or vendor onsite as an added offering at our parties, and they may receive payment for their work.
  • If you are directly or indirectly responsible for any damage to The Academy property, to include equipment, structures, and miscellaneous owned items, you are financially responsible for returning it to the condition in which you first encountered it.
  • Inhaled Nicotine (Smoking/E-cigs/Vaping) is prohibited anywhere inside The Academy. Smoking/E-Cigs/Vaping is permitted only in the designated area.
  • Use and / or bringing illegal drugs on The Academy premises is strictly prohibited and is grounds for immediate expulsion from the event and potential grounds for permanent expulsion from AFA
  • Alcohol is not permitted at AFA sponsored events.
  • No illegal activities will be tolerated.
  • Normal BDSM / Swinger etiquette is required.
    * Do not intrude into a scene unless specifically and verbally invited by the participants.
    * Do not touch people or property without permission. Watching from a respectful distance is permitted while in the play space, but please keep all conversation, laughter and comments to a minimum.
    DO NOT TALK TO or INTERACT WITH the players while the scene is progressing. (Unless specifically and verbally invited).
    * No interrupting of a scene is permitted;
    * If you believe something dangerous is happening or a consent violation is occurring, please contact the Manager on Duty (MOD).
    * The Manager on Duty (MOD) must be obeyed at ALL times.
    * If someone is breaching etiquette, your scene is being disturbed, or you are being bothered unduly, please notify the MOD.
  • Gunplay, Golden showers (urine), Brown Showers (feces) or Rainbow/Roman showers (vomit) are not allowed at The Academy.
  • Humans only – must be over the age of 19.
    No real animals of any kind are permitted in any area of The Academy during any event (with the exception of Service Animals assisting disabled handlers). However, animal and age related role-playing is perfectly acceptable.

Closing time

  • AFA close time is 2:00am. Please plan to end your scene/aftercare by 1:45am to give all involved time to get dressed, clean up toys, etc.
  • For the safety of all involved and due to our various legal agreements we need all patrons to exit lot by 2:15am.

USE OF PRIVATE / SMALL ROOMS

  • All private / semi-private rooms; (the rooms with opaque curtains), time allotted is 60 minutes, but may be extended if there is no one waiting to use the room
  • Linens and sheets are expected to be placed in the receptacle after each use
  • Used condoms and other items shall be placed in the trash
  • General tidying of the room wiping up expressed body fluids is expected after usage
  • Private rooms close at 1:45am. This is to give staff time to clean and reset for next week, and to give patrons time to pack up before 2:00am.

USE OF THE MEDICAL ROOM

  • If your play result in bleeding or breaking of skin, please take the necessary precautions to reduce the risk of cross contamination and keep your play contained so others are not at risk (use of drop cloths and chucks recommended).
  • If any accident or unexpected consequence begins to occur, the MOD should be contacted immediately. We have a first aid kit; ask the MOD or Concierge for it.
  • Used condoms, gloves, paper towel and other items shall be placed in the trash.
  • Clean the equipment and dispose of any cleanup materials properly.
  • Blood and needle play scenes to take place only in the needle/medical rooms.

USE OF FIRE PLAY / WAX TABLES & ROOM

  • Fire extinguisher and fire blanket will be provided by AFA and will be available in the fire room at all times.
  • No Glass cups allowed
  • No Fire Flogging or Fire Whips allowed
  • The AFA does not provide fire or wax play equipment.
  • If you are engaging in fire play there is to be nothing between the bottom and the table. Exceptions can be made for a small pillow/face rest.
  • If you are engaging in wax play you need some sort of plastic covering between the bottom and the table. AFA supplies wide plastic for this purpose or you may being your own. Use of AFA supplied cotton sheets in these scenes is not permitted.
  • Food play and paint play is allowed in the fire room & medical room only. If you are engaging in this sort of play it is required that you use plastic under the bottom. Use of AFA supplied cotton sheets in these scenes is not permitted.
  • General tidying of the area is expected after usage
  • For all wax, food, or paint play scenes participants are required to clean up any spills and/or splashes before the concierge resets the space.

USE OF THE ACADEMY PROVIDED EQUIPMENT

  • During scenes on the mats participants must remove their shoes.
  • Toys placed on the public hangers are property of The Academy. Please make sure they are returned after use. For everyone’s protection, please use paper towels to clean up excess blood, bodily fluids etc., and then notify one of our Concierge Staff that all equipment used needs to be cleaned & sanitized for the next user. Bring bodily fluid contamination to the attention of the MOD, or Concierge.
  • Safety standards shall be adhered. If any accident or unexpected consequence begins to occur, a MOD should be contacted immediately
  • Please inform the MOD or Concierge if a piece of equipment is defective or needs attention.
  • Do not steal or knowingly damage The Academy provided equipment. If such an event occurs, the responsible party(s) will be held financially responsible for repair / replace of the equipment.
  • If your play causes accidental bleeding please alert a MOD or concierge. They will get you a separate bag to bag the sheet. You will need to do this bagging.
  • If you are planning a scene that is likely to cause bleeding (including but not limited to needles, knifes) you need to supply your own linens.
  • AFA supplied cotton sheets are not to be used in scenes involving fire, wax, food or paint. Please see specific sections for more details.

AFA DIAPER PLAY POLICY

  • Diapers used for wetting may be changed in any room on non-cloth surfaces. A chuck pad must be used on the surface when performing the change. Used diapers must be placed in a bag and in the dumpster outside. A cursory wipe down with a wet wipe or similar object of the surface used by the participants is necessary. No play diaper use for fecal matter is acceptable at AFA. As always, please remember that all bodily fluids created by individuals are their responsibility to clean up, not our concierge or other staff.

USE OF BREAK ROOM / LOUNGE AREA / CHANGING AREA / LOCKER ROOM

  • Play is not allowed these areas
  • Conversations are allowed and no expectation is made for individuals having to carry on “quiet” conversations due to a scene
  • Please be courteous and assist in tidying the area.
  • Please put all waste material in the provided receptacles; notify a concierge when a receptacle is full or area needs service.

Grievances
Posting all rules and regulations for our membership to review, we hope to avoid any misunderstandings and put processes in place to handle misconduct immediately.
